Clive Haggar
Clive Haggar is a Life Member of the Australian Education Union and a Fellow of the Australian College of Educators.
Clive began his career teaching English and history at the Alice Springs High School before returning to Canberra in 1977 to work in the new secondary college system. He joined the ACT Teachers Federation as a Liaison Officer in 1982 .Clive became the Secretary of the ACT Branch of the Australian Education Union in 1989 and Chief Officer and Federal Executive member in 1996.
Clive led the development and negotiation of industrial relations and professional agreements for ACT public school and TAFE teachers, media and community campaigns to improve funding for public education and worked on the major educational iniatives in the ACT for over 20 years. These included in recent times the ACT Curriculum reforms, Safe schools taskforce, Leadership framework and a Code of Professional Practice for the teaching profession.
He has appeared regularly as an invited expert witness at committee andenquiry hearings of the ACT Legislative Assembly and also at those of the
Senate and House of Representative
He retired in 2008 and now works part time as a consultant and mediator.
