Participants in the hub will focus on a pedagogical journey that explores a comprehensive learning framework - a "thinking" approach to learning.
Dimensions
of Learning
not only explores how educators assist students to interact with
knowledge, but also explores in depth how attitudes and perceptions can
impact on the learning journey. Key aspects of Dimensions
of Learning include exploring high expectations,
effective feedback, classroom climate and relevancy and meaningfulness
of tasks.
For registrations for the workshops download the
Dimensions of Learning fliers on the ANSN website (www.ansn.edu.au).

One
of the key findings and recommendations from Geoff Master's report is
for schools to focus on improving the quality of teaching. The most
effective way to increase
the effectiveness of classroom teaching practices is to
engage in explicit teaching strategies that address identified
learning needs. Research from John Hattie (2009) and
Bryan Goodwin (2010) identify deliberate
practice
as being the key factor of highly effective teachers. Deliberate
practice is not only knowing what to do, but knowing the how, when and
why in selecting appropriate strategies and processes for learning.
Are
teachers in your school engaged in deliberate practice?
A
key criteria for highly effective schools is a common language that
allows a systemic
curriculum delivery. Dimensions
of Learning, not only provides evidence based learning
the framework also has a common language to describe learning and
thinking.
The Dimensions
of Learning process supports teachers in identifying and
establishing a differentiated
learning journey for students through the focus of effective
teaching practice that is supported by evidence based
research.
DoL
uses what researchers and theorists know about how students learn to
improve learning outcomes as well as providing an effective tool to
align assessment, pedagogy and curriculum planning. The learning journey
focuses on participants constructing their own knowledge and
understanding through hands on and practical examples, which are learnt
through a 5 day action learning that is spread over a 3- 5 month period.
Participating in DoL Hubs
The ANSN action learning approach facilitates participant's learning through reflection and shared practice using the lens of the DoL framework. All workshops aim at developing a culture of professional sharing and learning, through hands on practical activities.
