Dimensions of Learning hubs

Term 3 and 4 - 2009 dates

Has your school been implementing and exploring the Habits of Mind or Dimensions of Learning and want to find ways to further enhance your school journey or alternatively your school is interested in developing a complete learning framework that incorporates a common language to bind assessment, pedagogy and planning though a "thinking" approach?

Then you might be interested in the Australian National Schools Network professional learning on Dimensions of Learning (DoL).

Dimensions of Learning originated through a detailed meta-analysis that examined what research says about how learners learn.

The end product is an instructional framework that incorporates the best of research and educational theories of how students learn. Dimensions of Learning contextualises successful learning in terms of five types of thinking dispositions and aims at providing strategies and skills for educators to become strategic instructors of learning.

Dimensions of Learning: 5 Types of Thinking

  • Dimension 1: Attitudes and perceptions about learning
  • Dimension 2: Acquisitions and integration of knowledge
  • Dimension 3: Extension and refinement of knowledge
  • Dimension 4: Meaningful use of knowledge
  • Dimension 5: Productive habits of mind

The focus of the training will be to provide participants with knowledge and skills that will help identify how students learn. Participants will discuss and explore how to translate this information into an implementation program to help schools plan curriculum, assessment and instructional strategies.
