Educating for a Sustainable Future 2005-2007

Overview

The You Yangs Learning Community Cluster (YYLC) has worked with Centre for Education and Research in Environmental Strategies (CERES) and other environmental sustainability education agencies to enable schools to work effectively with community partners.

Through the project the YYLC developed a range of educational materials for a number of different environmental sustainability topics. Leading mathematics educators such as Charles Lovitt assisted teachers to develop a 'Working Mathematically' approach which was then applied to the context of environmental sustainability.

The YYLC intends to develop a model of integrating mathematics into studies of environmental sustainability for both primary and secondary school settings, which will increase students' knowledge, values, skills and social action as well reduce the use of natural resources in schools as well as the amount of waste of natural resources they produce.

Here are some exemplary units that describe the work that was carried out by the schools in the cluster.
