KidSmart Snapshots - Digital Delivery in PDF format
The ANSN and IBM as partners have documented and produced 11 snapshots that showcase early childhood teachers and their journeys in implementing technology with a play-based curriculum. These snapshots are designed to celebrate and share the cumulative learning of teachers who have explored and developed innovative teaching practices through technology integration, based on their participation in the IBM KidSmart project.
#1 Introduction
This snapshot highlights the philosophy of how technology can be integrated into the curriculum, to support rather than replace the vital traditional skills that sit within the early childhood curriculum.
#2 Richmond
This snapshot follows the journey of Libby Matthews, an early childhood teacher, as she reflects on her own practice, and the eventual realisation of the power of true technology integration on the learning of her children.
#3 Evanston
This snapshot case studies Alex, a young child with Autism, and how using technology integration provided a tool for Alex to develop social and educational outcomes.

This snapshot demonstrates how a teacher used "claymation" as a tool, to engage reluctant boys in exploring and developing an interest in literacy - in particular story telling, editing and scripting.

#5 Tara
This snapshot follows an investigation by Rhonda Ellis, an early childhood teacher who explored the strategies within technology integration that could support and develop multiliteracy skills.
#6 Kilcoy
This snapshot case studies four different students (ranging from learning difficulties to being class leaders) and explores the question of "Why should we have computers in early childhood?"
#7 Loxton
This snapshot case studies Troy, a student with learning difficulties. Through the use of baseline data and the development of a tailor-made program utlising the computer, to address specific learning goals, the teachers documented how technology was used to engage Troy in the learning journey.
#8 Hillman
This snapshot follows Natalie Warnock, an early childhood teacher, as she explored new learning opportunities for engaging her young students through both open-ended and closed software programs. Two students are case studied, one a bright young student and the other less confident and still at an early developmental stage of literacy and numeracy.
#9 Moorditj Noongar
This snapshot explores how computer integration can be a highly successful tool for engaging young indigenous students and communities. One of the key successes for the program was how computer integration complimented key components of indigenous learning styles.

#10 Tranbury
This snapshot highlights how teachers at Tranbury found their prior thinking of technology integration was challenged through the KidSmart project. The centre used PIPS as a tool to gather and compare baseline data on a number of students. Through their investigation they had data to provide evidence of the success of computer integration for student learning.
#11 Chancellor
This snapshot showcases Chris Cook's innovative use of technology, as she moves from integration to making technology an integral component of her classroom.
