The ANSN has a proud tradition of using action learning and action research in its work. Learning from action has been used to help teachers direct their own school-led reforms in teaching and learning. It involves people committing to learn from their own experience, to do this with others and to share their learning with the wider community in which they live or work. Learning from action informs reflection, reflection produces new understandings and new understanding produces new actions. Doing it together provides a means of pooling knowledge and ideas, building trust and respect and contributes to building a professional practice. Through this work teachers have contributed evidence-rich accounts of classroom innovation to the profession.
