W.A. Interactive Whiteboard (IWB) HUB

IWB Do you share the following goals?
  • investigate IWB technology as a tool for improving student learning outcomes through classroom structures.
  • improve your technological knowledge and support in using IWB’s
  • set up an online space where resources can be stored and shared
  • increase your network of colleagues who can provide IWB support
The ANSN invites Teachers to an Interactive Whiteboard Hub, where we will explore these goals in 6 evening workshops (two per Term). This Hub will cater for users of all IWB boards and software.

What is involved?

Hub meetings will include the following:
  • Getting to know new colleagues with whom you can share and exchange IWB knowledge
  • Explore areas of pedagogy that need to be addressed in terms of using IWB’s as a tool in improving student learning.
  • Hands – on technology learning.
  • Guest speakers who have expertise in areas relating to technology, pedagogy and Action Learning.
  • Visits from Kate Cooper (nee Seabrook) who has a wealth of knowledge in training IWB users.
  • Dr Karen Murcia, from Murdoch University, who has been doing research about improving learning outcomes with the effective use of IWB technology.
  • Others yet to be confirmed
Each session will be guided by what you, the participant, will find most useful.

For maximum benefit, we strongly encourage at least two teachers come from each school, so they can network together between Hub meetings.

ANSN involvement

The Australian National Schools Network (ANSN) is active in its support and promotion of innovative teaching and learning practices. During 2006 and 2007, the ANSN has been working with many schools nationally to explore how Interactive Whiteboard technology can be used to support teaching and learning and improve student outcomes. This work has led to three IWB Hubs forming in Victoria with over one hundred teachers taking part. We are now starting up a Hub tailored to Western Australian Educators. This initial Hub will be advertised to all schools in the Fremantle/Peel region.
